PART 4
GUIDE SPECIFICATION

It is recommended that this guide specification be incorporated into project specifications as a complete and separate section under Division 9 – Finishes, using the format as outlined herein and using Section number 09250 as listed under Construction Specifications Canada Master Format, Master List of Section Titles and Numbers, for the Construction Industry.

The complete standard for products and application methods for products and application methods for gypsum board, as contained within Parts 2 and 3 of this Section of the Standards, is automatically included in the project specifications by use of the “Quality Assurance – Standard Specifications” clause. The actual project requirements, where optional in these standards, is the only modification required to be made by the specifier to the guide specification.

The use of Parts 2 and 3 of this section of the standards implies acceptance of all the Standards contained within those parts and any required modifications to these standards must be clearly stated by the Specifier in the project specifications. Any modifications to these Standards shall meet or exceed the specified Standards.

Clause 1.2 – Related Work under other Sections lists work related to this Section but not to be included as part of the work of this section.

SECTION 09250

  1. GENERAL

    1.1 Description
    The work of this section includes the supply and installation of gypsum board as indicated and as specified herein.

    Extent of work to be expanded, if necessary, to suit project requirements.

    Include also (water-resistant gypsum board)(abuse-resistant gypsum board)(glass mat tile backer board)(reinforced cementitious board) (glass mat gypsum sheathing board).

    Include also the sealing of perimeter joints gypsum board sound rated partitions and supply and installation of acoustical insulation in gypsum board sound rated partitions (mineral wool insulation within fire rated partitions

    Delete items not applicable, or amend to suit project requirements.

    Grouting of pressed steel door frames in gypsum board partitions.

    Delete if not applicable to the project.

    Installation of access panels in gypsum board partitions.(ceilings)

    Delete if not applicable to the project or amend to suit project requirements.

    1.2 Related Work Under Other Sections

    1.3 Quality Assurance – Standard Specifications
    Section 9.6 – Gypsum Board of the Association of Wall and Ceiling Contractors (A.W.C.C.) Specification Standards Manual, together with authorized additions and amendments, shall be used as a reference standard and shall form part of this project specification.

    Where modifications to the Standards contained within the A.W.C.C. Specification Standards Manual are included in this project specification, then the Standards shall govern in case of conflict.

    The installer of gypsum board shall keep a copy of Section 9.6 – Gypsum Board of the A.W.C.C. Specifications Standards Manual available at the project site for reference purposes.

    All gypsum board products and accessories to be used in the project shall meet or exceed the requirements specified under Part 2 – Products of Section 9.6 of the A.W.C.C. Specification Standards Manual. The proposed product manufacturer shall provide the Consultant, if requested, with satisfactory evidence indicating conformance of his products with the requirements specified in the A.W.C.C. Specification Standards Manual. Any product failing to meet those requirements will be rejected by the Consultant.

    Reference in these project specifications to Section numbers, Parts and Item Numbers means those Sections, Parts and Items contained within Section 9.6 of A.W.C.C. Specification Standards Manual.

    Products and installation shall be in Metric (Imperial) measurement as specified under Section 9.6 of the A.W.C.C. Specification Standards Manual.

    Delete Metric or Imperial, as applicable for the Project.

    1.4 Qualifications
    The Gypsum Board Contractor shall have proven satisfactory experience in the type of work included in this section and shall, if requested by the Consultant provide proof of such experience.

    The Gypsum Board Contractor shall be a member in good standing of a recognized association of the Wall and Ceiling industry and shall, if requested by the Consultant, provide proof of such membership.

    Only mechanics skilled in the trade(s) required by this section and having either a Red Seal Inter-Provincial trades qualification or a Provincial trades qualification, or be a registered apprentice in the applicable trade shall be engaged in the work. If requested by the Consultant the Gypsum Board Contractor shall provide a list of the trade(s) showing their qualification certificate of proficiency.

    1.5 Product Delivery/Storage/Handling
    Deliver and store material undamaged in original wrapping or containers, with manufacturer’s labels intact.

    Prevent damage to materials during handling and storage. Keep gypsum board and other materials under cover and free from dampness.

    1.6 Job Conditions
    Ensure temperature and ventilation conditions are maintained as required under Section 9.6 – Part 3, Item 2.

    Protect work of other sections from damage resulting from work of this section.

    Take necessary protection to avoid spattering of surfaces adjacent to gypsum board, particularly aluminum and glass. Spatters from this work shall be promptly removed from adjacent surfaces.

    Examine the underlying visible surfaces and adjoining work and report defects at time of installation that might impair the gypsum board to the Contractor in writing.

    For cutting of reinforced cementitious boards with mechanical devices, workers shall wear protective masks to prevent inhalation of airborne dust in accordance with WCB regulations.
